Kenya Aid aims to improve the quality and access to health-care services to rural populations in Western Kenya, in a sustainable way that involves both the local community and the Kenyan government. To this end Kenya Aid has developed and opened a primary health-care clinic in Shikunga Village, in the Western Province of Kenya, running since 2005.
This facility aims to provide low-cost health care and target public health prevention strategies for those in Kenya's poorest region. The Shikunga clinic is the base for Kenya Aid’s eight community projects:
- Primary health-care service
- Annual medical camps
- Malaria reduction program
- HIV VCT program
- Immunisation program
- Community based health-care education and prevention
- Training and education for local health-care professionals
- Agriculture program
In early 2008, Kenya Aid has begun constructing a new clinic building from which to run the programs. It is situated in a central area of the village, with good access next to the main road. Kenya Aid needs a further $20 000 to cover the remaining cost of the building. Click here to donate to the building project.
